This is a moment from RENT, in the song "Christmas Bells." The scene is a montage of different moments around the stage, that happen in rapid succession. The color palette was shades of blue because of the location and weather of the scene: exterior, possibly in the shadow of tall buildings, and snowy. Therefore, I chose R64 downlight as the key for most of the scene, while highlighting the various moments with less saturated colors. R64 is somewhat saturated but will still provide non-blue color rendering, making it a good choice for a stage wash.

The Designer used a backlight gobo gelled in R373 and high side gobo gelled in Half cut R93/open white to create a stark, dingy feel. the only other light is coming from low LED Side light.

This is a photo from the one act play: "Jumping". In this photo the two characters are just meeting and starting to fall for another. The play is set in the cold region of Washington at night by a bridge. So I used R80 on the cyc to create that cold atmosphere, with a simple front wash of R08 and R62 for corrective color, with a single special creating a sort of street lamp (which the two characters are sitting under) using R12.

This is Act Two Scene One of Neil LaBute's Reasons To Be Pretty. In this scene the two characters bump into one another in the lobby of a restaurant. For the lighting I used a 50% intensity on a front wash that consisted mainly of R21 with a 10% intensity of R80 for color correction. I used a higher intensity of R21 to showcase a warm, romantic glow to set the environment of a 4 star restaurant at night. For my down wash I used R36 at an intensity of 20% to assist the R21 in creating a flush, warm, and romantic atmosphere.

The overall theme of the design was based off of the works of Marc Chagall. Both the lighting and the scenic design were based off of his artworks. The scenes are from the original version of the play.
